The Goal of Psychological Services

Solving the Puzzle

The goal of a psychological consultation and assessment is to determine why the child or adolescent is having adjustment, behaviour or learning difficulties.

In intervention sessions, areas of concerns are identified and treatment goals are discussed.  Effective strategies for home and school are then developed and implemented in order to better the child's functioning.

A psychoeducational assessment is a process of information gathering aimed specifically at uncovering the causes for learning difficulties or assessing learning potential.  With the use of formal established assessment tools, the student's intellectual potential, learning style, academic achievement and social-emotional functioning are thoroughly measured.  A comprehensive profile of strengths and weaknesses is then generated.  Specific classroom and home strategies are formulated in order to facilitate the student's academic performance and optimize his or her potential.
